The principle behind this book is that there is often little need for men/women to spend years and perhaps hundreds of thousands of dollars for a university education that may have little actual relevance to a man's life work when he can become successful and EDUCATED using his own powers of "Observation," hard work, and observing the world around himself or herself. The author, Russell Herman Conwell, makes a compelling argument for this truth, while pointing out that his reader's education is as near as his surroundings and his public library. The downside, is that the book was originally published in 1917, and that the copy write has long since expired. I bought the Kindle edition where the digitizing was probably done by Cornell University who did a frightful job while putting headings, page numbers, paragraphs and "novel" spellings everywhere! It is a mess! But I would RECOMMEND the book HIGHLY... but buy the paperback version for an easier read!Product details

I agree that this is an excellent book with excellent content that is worth your while to read. However, not all editions of this book are equal. This particular edition has lots of typos from using OCR (Optical Character Recognition). The size of the book is also awkward. It is large (about like an 8" x 10" photo") and thin. I much prefer reading more of a novel-sized version of the book that has avoided the typos (by not using OCR). I suggest looking at ISBN 978-1313630054 before making your purchase. It is more novel-sized, and I have yet to find a typo in it. Having purchased both, I highly prefer it.
This is an amazing book, it is a very good companion to the book that mentioned it (The Law of Success by Napolean Hill). I recommend it. Pay Attention! when you read it. Enjoy!
Russell Conwell is great and points out how observation is the key to real education and success. observation being the ability to pay attention to detail and having an earnestness to learn. In Law of Success napolean hill recommends reading this book a hundred times over. Ive read it once and i plan on reading it many times, its something i want well ingrained on my subconscious
Everyman is his own university May just be one of my best reads to date and I look forward to my notes as resources forever moving forward! As I ask to be better at receiving wisdom and guidance for the betterment of humanity this book fell upon me, I am forever grateful and would recommend this book to the person reading this
This was recommended reading after one of Napolean Hills books. It's a bit antiquated but a good read non the less.
Excellent advice from the past that applies today. Observation is key to success. The book was very poorly transferred to which makes reading it tedious.
I love to read books from different time periods, because it shows the mentality of the people who existed during that time. The fact that this book is archived with Cornell University says a lot in and of itself. Russell Conwell wrote "a masterpiece of common sense", he argues with perfection that "observation-observing things" is the best education that you can have. If people look at themselves or the things around them and different states, conditions, etc. they would have the answers they needed in life and not be confused. Oddly enough during his time people begin moving away from observing things themselves and moved towards people telling them what truth/reality was. He brings to life how people started moving away from substance in their lives during his time. How they begin to accept ideas that contradicted the very things they observed. I heard about the book through listening to either Napoleon Hill or W. Clement Stone. This is a great book...and I keep it on my dresser...along with "The Power of the Subconscious Mind" by Joseph Murphy.
