Aggressive, physical, and brave, Jake Owens is a small town football hero turned big city cop who passes his time with meaningless encounters believing he can’t have who he really wants Nate Richardson, his best friend since before forever. Thoughtful, quiet, and kind, Nate is a brilliant doctor who has always known who he is and has never been able to shake his crush on loyal, courageous, straight Jake.

After a passionate night together, Nate realizes Jake isn’t as straight as he assumed, but he worries that what they shared was a fluke, a result of too much closeness for too long. For Jake, the question isn’t how they ended up in bed together because he has always known that Nate holds his heart, it’s how he’ll convince Nate that he wants and needs to stay there.

"We've always been almost like one person. I've never known where he ends and where I begin."
*

Told in Jake and Nate's alternating dual POV, we learn Jake and Nate have been best friends literally from birth. Their mothers were the only girls in their big families and became best friends as children, sharing their lives together, marrying within weeks of each other, getting pregnant at the same time, and even giving birth on the same day.

From the moment Jake and Nate were placed together in the hospital basinet they've been together. They've never really spent any time apart, nor wanted to. That doesn't mean they're the same, though. Jake is rough, tough and can be a d**k, and Nate is sweet, smart and almost always kind. Even though Jake can be a tough nut he has always treated Nate like gold. Mainly because it turns out Jake has been in love with Nate all his life, but never known how to really tell Nate that his "love" isn't a platonic brotherly love, but that he's actually "in love" with Nate.

It took me a little to get into the swing of the story. It's not only told in dual POV, in the beginning the same scene is replayed from both perspectives, which had me a little off balance. Once I got used to it though, I enjoyed seeing how each man dealt with a situation, and what his inner thoughts on it were.

I enjoyed Alexander Collin's narration for the story. He has a way of pulling me in and keeping me charmed throughout. He really made me believe Nate's reluctance to believe that the one man he's always wanted really does want him back and this isn't a fluke, or a fling. I loved Collin's depiction of Jake, who's determined to make sure Nate knows he's in this relationship for the long haul and that he loves him totally and unconditionally.

I absolutely love the emotion and romance in this; the way they both so vulnerable in different ways, the way Jake takes care of Nate, and how they both interact with one another...it just absolutely made me melt.

I also love all the sex. And a friendly warning: there is a lot of sex. I don't think there's a single chapter without some, and it's all SUPER HOT. I listened to this at work, and I was blushing.

Bottom line: Narration is good, the story is HOT, and I loved all the sweetness!

Where He Ends I Begin A Friends to Lovers Contemporary Gay Romance Home Book 6 edition by Cardeno C Romance eBooks Reviews

It's not quite 4 stars, but it's better than 3.

The story is almost like modern time traveling. No this is not a sci-fi story. But you are constantly re-winding the story to see scenes from a different perspective. Which I totally get and is an avoidable and sometimes needed element of the book.

As always, I noticed most of the typos, I wasn't even going to mention them this time, but I saw that the author came back to the story and added a bonus chapter, which lead me to believe that they didn't read over the story to fix anything that might have needed fixing or they did and I wonder at how many errors were there before.

As for the actual story, I liked it. It dissects a relationship that is already so long lived and we see them dealing with issues and not leaving them to colour their relationship for a large chunk of the story like some other stories.

The only other thing that slightly bugs me about this story, is that other than one instance and maybe two mentions, maybe three, they are a top and a bottom. But in all honesty, I'm mot surprised considering the sexual history of one of them. I even wondered how the author was going to deal with two potential tops. It felt like I was shown that they would "take turns" or something, but it didn't happen. If it wasn't for an early comment, I would really feel bad for one of them.

Oh, the bonus chapter. It's not as invested in as the main story, but are they normally? If anything, it's a nice peek into their lives a few years later.

If you want a sappy gay "I've loved you forever" story with a lot of licking and sex, go for it.
The jumps in time between POV switches was disorientating (each character relived the same stretch of time from his own perspective, so when Jake has finished at a particular dramatic point, we continue with Nate by going back in time and reliving the whole thing. Every single time. Just no. The first third of the book Nate was obtuse and stubborn about Jake’s “change of heart” to the point of nausea. In other words, the author used that despicable “the avoidable miscommunication” trope and loaded Nate’s wrong assumptions about Jake’s “straightness” to create the tension and it spoiled everything. When that phase of the book finally ended, it felt like the story had wrapped up (typical of novella-length book), the way it had build and came to a head. Except the book was only 33% done! Next followed what I refer to as "the tableau of their life" an event would happen that we get to live through twice, then hot sex. Rinse and repeat till the end where we get the obligatory syrupy ending, marriage and kid included. The funny thing is, around 32% I almost did not finish; at the 70% mark I could not stop reading. It was not getting better, but these two guys were just so perfect together and so in love, and I couldn't stop soaking up the feels. Ultimately, this story has a lot of heart and heat, but not enough cohesion to make it work. It did not feel like a book that has been thoroughly developed, just a series of disjointed events that lead people to the obvious ending. I have read novellas by this author, written more recently, that I gave a solid 4.5* and 5* respectively, so the best I can say is this is not this author's best work.
